Lynx Disc Golf Services and Sandy Creek Park
present
The Flying Eye Invitational
May 29-30, 2004
What: A PDGA B-Tier singles tournament on May 29-30, 2004. Player's meeting is at 9AM sharp!
Who? The first 72 players to pre-register. We will NOT have any 5-somes.
Do I have to be invited to play? No, you don't. We call it the invitational because we are sending out invitations and because we think it sounds cool. We're easy that way.
Where: The Cook's Property section of Sandy Creek Park in Athens, GA, AKA The Crucible
The Course: An 18 hole, par 68 course on rolling hills with mature hardwoods. There is a lake and a creek that come into play and elevation change on almost every hole.
The Course Record: 60 by Brad Hammock. Women's record is 80 by Courtney Peavy..
How do I get there? There are directions on the bottom of this page.
The format: Saturday we will play 2 rounds of 18 holes with regular shotgun starts. Sunday we will play 1 round of 18 holes using a rolling start where everyone starts on hole #1. Tee times will be based on scores from the first 2 rounds.
The amenities: We will have water on the course as well as snacks and drinks for sale. The Lynx trailer will be there for all your disc golf equipment (and impulse buying) needs.
Lodging: Sandy Creek park has excellent camping on the lake, you can contact them at 706-613-3631. Athens is small, so any hotel you find in town will be within 15 minutes of the course. Athens is also cheap so any hotel you find will likely be inexpensive enough for you to have a few dollars left to enjoy the Athens nightlife. And this year we will start late enough on Sunday that you can actually go downtown and still get enough sleep...

Directions to Course
This course is in Sandy Creek Park, but we will drive to the back entrance (which is not normally open for access and is unmarked). For people camping in the park it is about a 3/4 mile walk to the course (to drive you must exit the park).
From Atlanta to course:
I-85 North to GA-316, GA-316 East to Athens
Take the 10 Loop North/West (left) (you will see a big sign for Home Depot and
Kroger just past the 10-Loop).
Go approx 8 miles, take the Danielsville Rd. exit
Go north on Danielsville Road for 1 mile. Turn left on Nowhere Road.
Go 3 miles, just past the cemetery on the right you will see two large trees
forming an arch over the road, just before that is the course. Look for the
signs.
From Atlanta to Park for Camping:
I-85 North to GA-316, GA-316 East to Athens
Take the 10 Loop North/West (left) (you will see a big sign for Home Depot and
Kroger just past the 10-Loop).
Go approx 8 miles, take the US-441/Commerce Rd. exit
Go north approx 3 miles on US-441
Turn right on Bob Holman Road
1.5 miles, park is on the right
Walking from the campground to course:
Straight across from the bathrooms at the campground is a horse trail, take
that, it goes straight for 100 yards and then turns hard left. If you don't
turn left with the trail you'll walk into a fence. That makes it easy... follow
the trail for 3/4 mile, the fence on your right will begin to angle away and
you'll see an old road bed also angling away down the hill (hopefully we'll
have a sign up there), go down the hill. You'll cross a small creek and see
a gate, go through the gate and you're on the course. In fact, you're near the
tee for hole #11. If you go up the hill to the right and just over the ridge
you'll see a big open hill with a barn (and, hopefully, a bunch of cars) on
top. That's hole #1 and tournament central.
Driving from the campground to course:
Exit the park, go left on Holman Rd. Take to US-441, go left (south).
Go 3 miles to 10-loop, take 10-loop east (left).
Get off at 2nd exit, Danielsville Rd.
Go north on Danielsville Rd. for 1 mile, turn left on Nowhere Road
Go 3 miles, just past the cemetery on the right you will see two large trees
forming an arch over the road, just before that is the course. Look for the
signs.
